So, the sonic screwdrivers are out, and the first impressions are arriving.

And austin_dern might like to look at these coati-in-a-tree photos (tree sold separately).

Here's a Goldfrapp track from a live performance on Jools' Annual Hootenanny 2005. Cool track, with very shiny pn0ys: On A White Horse (16.9MB). ^_^ It does exhibit artifacting, as the original file wasn't the best.

For a good liberal US-centric weblog, you might try The Next Hurrah. It's rather more analytical than many political weblogs, including some in-depth examination of Abramoff's dealings with Indian tribes, and consideration of other means of commencing impeachment proceedings, notably as a communication from a State legislature.

Quote for the day, indeed, comes from the comments for the latter article: "'I am all for the idea, but why does Rhode Island have 75 legislators?' 'That's nothing! New Hampshire has 400! I believe that's one state House member for every 3,000 people in the state. You can't swing a dead cat in that state without hitting a state legislator. And there's a fairly good chance the cat might be one, too.'"

This piece of nude photography is genuinely a work of art.

Normally, I'm not much for The Joy of Tech, but this snipe at Google over their complicity with Chinese censorship (by far not the only company involved, we should remember - who's heard a word against Cisco's role in supplying the Firewall of China's infrastructure?) is pretty good.

Happened upon quite a fun TF story the other night: Strange (but wonderful) Happenings, involving toonbots. Definitely not the best writing, I'll readily accept, but one I enjoyed considerably nonetheless.

"Today, 80 to 95 percent of East Asians have dry earwax, whereas the wet variety is abundant in people of African and European ancestry (97 to 100 percent)."

If you want to know more about just how Sony's infamous CD "copy protection" works, look here. Fairly hair-raising stuff. And yet, does anyone want to bet Sony will wind up having to pay any noticeable penalty, or any of the executives responsible for the project see jail time?

Veuve Clicquot 1998 - wonderful! Reasonably crisp opening, but not sharp or empty, with a beautiful bouquet as a second flavor, fading gracefully. Easily worth revisiting.

Oh, so that's how it is with this ISP.. I left Hyzenthlay finishing an upload to the webspace, so by the time I returned, it'd timed out. Its response to my "quit"? 421 Timeout - try typing a little faster next time ^_^;

Aw.. it'll all work out in the fullness of time. Just you see. ^_^

(And I'm really hoping the forthcoming Cyberman mask with voice changer is faithful to the new design.. that's going to be way too much fun. And let's not forget the radio controlled Daleks! I wonder how many of them you can have in close proximity..)
Probably will be new-Cyberman, not old-Cyberman. A brief chat with an ex-Beeb propsmaster suggested that the producers and manufactuers of DW-related books and toys are gaga over the new series, uninterested in the old. (One can but hope for a period of reflection and reissuance of some of the older reference material...)

(Takes tasty, tasty chocolate and is comforted.)

((How about rigging up a multi-channel remote for those Daleks that runs x10 automation protocols? Have a room full of little Daleks all running about under one of your Mac's control? All stop when you enter and start chirruping 'Wor-ship him! Wor-ship hiiiim!' ;))
