Forty years ago, Apollo 11 set off for the moon.

And on August 8th 1969, soon after everyone was safely back, this advert appeared in Life. =:D

Ah, it's time for my yearly viewing of 'The Dish' then.

OK. Now I have to go check Wikipedia. The LEM wasn't a VW, was it?
It could be with a quick edit =P
The LEM was a VW Van customised by Westphalia to operate only in the conditions of space.
The real secret of the lunar landings isn't whether they took place, but how the beach recliner and German flag towel was edited out of the transmissions back to Earth.
Interestingly (for me anyway) I was at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View yesterday looking at the Apollo Guidance Computer.

I have irrefutable evidence that that photo is a studio mock-up rather than being actually taken on the Moon.
Well I think it's pretty cute! Um, but yes, buggish... and I think I hear it going beep beep but then... in space, nobody can hear you go beep beep (in your ear oh no the coins keep coming out...)
