Can a PDF embed an animated GIF? After having saved a few Friends pages as PDFs, for offline viewing, I find I miss, say, toraneko's kitty & hamster icon in full motion. ^_^ (Mmm.. hafta suggest to the good folks at the Omni Group that OW5's PDFs embed links, too)

Egad. Acer's new 17" laptop weighs in at a portly 15.7lb. What are they making the case from, concrete reinforced steel? (By comparison, Apple's similar offering comes in at 6.9lb - 2lb heavier than the 15" model, unfortunately. You might be surprised how much lighter five pounds feels on the shoulder than seven)

I've finally managed to get around to watching the first four episodes of Boogiepop Phantom, a series which I'd be a fool to attempt to summarise.

More proof that the coolness of the world is shifting down under: Hamilton, in New Zealand, has approved the siting and partial funding of a statue in tribute to former resident, Richard O'Brien, creator of the Rocky Horror Picture Show (what, I needed to say that?), appropriately reflected in the design.

And to part with, for the the moment, tinfoil hats for cats.

It's still entertaining me. boing, boing, boing, boing!
It's a very persuasive argument for resetting my "repeat animated GIFs" setting from "twice" back to the default of "infinite". ^_^ Come on, there's got to be a story behind it.. ^_^
Unfortunately my laptop seems to be made from neutron star matter. >.
But then, weren't the stardrives in Alan Dean Foster's Thranx universe essentially artificial black holes projected in front of the ships? Maybe all you need to do is dangle it in front of you, and see if you begin to accelerate. Forwards, that is, not towards the floor.

BTW, when I'm next blessed with a connection lasting longer than a few hours, what would be a good IRC channel to try for local furriness? ^_^ (There's the phone, yes, but I'm always shy on those things.. I'd so much sooner be there in person)

I was tickled to see someone note the "classic Mac" weighed about the same as that Acer, and came with a handle too. ^_^

Maybe not the local you're looking for, but I do have an IRC server that anyone is welcome to use for whatever purpose. irc://irc.audicity.com:6667
I don't see what the big deal is about a few extra pounds of computer. If you can't carry it, then there must be something wrong. You need more excercise.

Anyway, you can just make your own IRC channel. However, from what I've seen, location-specific channels tend to be very, very quiet.

Well, the thing is the Acer luggage computer weighs more than my dear, departed Celebrity did, Royce ... though I think more interesting is that according to its specs page this Garfield of Laptops offers ``up to 1.0 hour life depending on configuration and usage'' on the lithium ion battery. And only four hours to recharge, too!

Anyway, can't speak to any IRC channels in Great Britain, or elsewhere, really. I haven't delved into IRC except for a few virtual meetings with my adviser since 1995, and even then I couldn't get it to work reliably. Only other folks I know in Britain at the moment anyway are Lamar and Ouroboros anyway.

Yes! I remember that :)
Animated GIF in PDF files...? o.O I don't think that's possible...

Scratch that.. google search reveals a few animated pdf's... here 1, and here's another. http://www.protocol7.com/svg-wiki/ow.asp?SendWishes might also have something.... (search for animated)

Hmmm... it's back to eBay to get an Osborne-1, then. =;)
And let's not forget that famous advertising photo of the Professional Businesswoman casually swinging one as she strolls along..
