In need of Big Stompy Scalies on the big screen? rigelkitty passed on this trailer for D-War. Doesn't look like there's much of a story, just lots of RAR and BOOM.

I imagine everyone's safely there already, but in case you've not noticed, FA is at furaffinity.info until the usual domain's pointed to the new server's IP. [Edit: everything's back to normal]

Apparently, the citations listed in the online OED for its draft entry for "crunk" are from rec.music.hip-hop. We live in exciting linguistic times, people.

A good posting, and one with which I'd largely agree, on the nature of crime and legislation - the various main categories, and their roots. The issue of medical licensing seems to conflate unrelated issues. The author's comment at #39 makes more precise assertions with regard to psychoactives, with which I'd particularly concur.

Something unusual I came across the other day, of perhaps some interest to a few folks: the Devo Print Archive, comprising some 300 pages of scans of newsletters, magazine articles, and other Devolutionist miscellenea.

As pointed out by relee, I think I need to check out Happy Kitty Bunny Pony: A Saccharine Mouthful of Super Cute. Perhaps the library can get a copy in. ^_^

Found by hawthorn - not quite worksafe, but so adorable..

I thought ysengrin might be interested in the curiously fascinating origin of "CPR Annie", the world-famous rescucitation training mannequin.

The Simpsons Movie - worth seeing. ^_^ As others have remarked, it does feel somewhat like a long TV episode, but that's not such a bad thing - the pacing's not always even, but there's a very good "hit" rate for the jokes. (Favorite line? You can probably guess =:)

Wondering if you saw this one yet. Mmmmm, tail!

Oh, gods. ^_^ Just got to love those feet.. and cute little bunny claws, too. Definitely going into the best bunnies directory on the drive.

I really need to get caught up with FA sometime soon - I'm getting close to hitting the 2,000 waiting messages mark. If only I could pick up a WiFi signal reliably in the park, or better yet, the library.. but as far as I can tell, I can only find a few marginal signals in the park, and nothing at all in the library. (Though that's with the PSP, using a handy WiFi sniffer app - much more convenient and inconspicuous than a 17" laptop - so maybe Hyzenthlay's reception would be better. Remarkably, the forecast for the coming week doesn't include rain, so I might actually have time to enjoy walking around without a hood or umbrella)

"Somebody throw the god damn bomb!" stood out to me for some reason and made me giggle.
Heh! There definitely were some great lines. I'm pleased to see they can still manage to turn out good Simpsons after all this time, especially given how lousy some of the more recent eps have been. (Though I'd still like to see a Futurama movie.. reminds me, I wonder what the schedule is for those forthcoming new episodes?)

Being a foodie, I loved Flanders' cocoa preparation.. =:D (Foo! There's none in the house.. hmm. Maybe the deli in town sells something especially good - Ghirardelli's powdered chocolate is exquisite, but they don't seem to have much distribution outside California, regrettably. For a milk chocolate, the cocoa content's surprisingly high - around 35%, IIRC, so it's got the warm richness of a milk chocolate, but still a hearty cocoa flavor as well)

I think I might well buy the DVD when it appears - easily worth seeing again, at least. (Even when money's around, I buy far fewer DVDs than I did a few years ago, as I realised I often didn't rewatch them at all)

'Course, I had to chuckle at the blackboard joke in the opening.. ^_^
"Happy Bunny Kitty Pony" is worth checking out but overpriced. Definitely hit a library for it. (And this coming from a Mike Nelson fan.)
Oh, pity. Mm, maybe I'll suggest it to them. ^_^ I'm long overdue for another visit - it's just a bit cramped, so it doesn't feel as comfortable a place as it might, and there's no WiFi visible from there, at least as far as I can judge using the sniffer app on my PSP (somewhat easier to tote around than a 17" PowerBook. Also less likely to result in one's stoning, given the lack of technology in the area - even cellphones on the move are uncommon, let alone something as rarified as an iPod)
I should check out the Simpsons movie, I think... I've heard both good and bad things about it (in particular, people have said that it's quite like the later seasons, which I never really liked all that much), but I should give it the benefit of doubt and watch it. :) And if it's good, I'd otherwise berate myself afterwards for not having seen it on the big screen.
I'm not sure I'd say it's more like the earlier or later, really. ^_^ Definitely not early, but overall, it's well up there as Good Simpsons. I wonder how they'll translate my favorite line.. it's brief, but its cadence in English surely would be difficult to preserve. I'd more or less given up on the show entirely, but a few recent ones suggest there are at least some good eps, or maybe they've pulled out of their nosedive - I don't watch regularly, so I can't really offer an informed opinion on the past few years.

One thing surprised me a little, given how good the show's music has been over the years, is there weren't any musical numbers at all, other than an opening piece from Green Day, which doesn't really count. But could they ever hope to surpass the monorail song? ^_^
We'll see... the dubs of the TV episodes are usually quite horrible; not only are puns translated literally (so they don't make any sense anymore), but sometimes (too often by far!) a perfectly good and sensible translation is passed up in favour of something sttpid, wooden, unnatural and unfunny that nobody would ever say. It's really total crap.

Outside of that... heh, yeah. ^.^ The Simpsons definitely had a number of good numbers over the years, and the monorail song was a very nice one. Personally, I also loved the maison derriere song (and Marge's attempt at a counter-song afterwards... ^^)
See? You should be a translator. ^_^ Surprising it's that bad, but maybe the German translators just don't give it much priority - just a cartoon, and all that, even though it might avoid the usual "animation is for children" label. (As atomicat noticed the other day, finding a copy of Wizards amongst the rest of the cheap animation DVDs) But then, good translation is quite an art, especially where puns are involved, not to mention good voice acting, as many anime fen will tell you. =:)

I admit, I had to google that song. Definitely another classic. ^_^ Like I said, really quite surprising they didn't go that way, but it sounds like the process of making it was quite fractured, so maybe the decision was made to just Get It Done, rather than embark on a death march that'd leave everyone exhausted and no-one satisfied. I'd been quite sceptical it'd be any good, but they managed. It's no Ratatouille, but the DVD will find a proud place in any Simpsons fan's collection. (Just how can they surpass the rat? (And yes, they manage to slip in a good jab there too) Still, Wall-E looks like it could be one to see)
Maybe they don't give them that much priority... but the Simpsons are reasonably popular, and in any case, it still would not explain the outright— well, not just sloppiness, but *stupidity*. :P

Speaking of voice acting, BTW, that's usually OK for the main characters at least; minor characters unfortunately sometimes change their voices (and the new voices aren't even close to the old ones!), which is VERY distracting, to say the least. I suppose it's another example of "money, money über alles" - it's not as if people have a choice (there's just one Simpsons dub, after all), so why bother with quality?

But yeah, that song IS a classic. ^.^ I've got a collection of Simpsons Soundclips somewhere (songs that are being sung on the show, that is), and some are really quite good. And there's also a bunch that are just weird, like Groundskeeper Willy performing "I'm a maniac" as a one-man band. ("I'm a maniac, maniac, that's fer shoorr... and I'm dancin' like I've never danced befoorre!" ^^)
