Two FC2007 videos just came out! bigbluefox's in two parts, ein und zwei (MPEG-4/AVI, about 450MB each part, three hours in total), and timduru's, over here (640x480 MPEG-2, 430MB, ten minutes), or for the bandwidth constrained, over here (512x384 H.264, 50MB).

Mario, Soviet style.

kyootfox pointed out a particular piece by the inimitable bob_basset: Gloomy Rabbit. Dour, but still so adorable. ^_^

If you've got a dead first generation iPod mini, here's an excellent article on how to replace the hard drive with a Compact Flash card, supposedly offering improved battery life into the bargain.

Collaborative game design, of a sort, in MIT's The Restaurant Game. They're seeking at least a thousand people to have a go (OS X and Windows), with everyone's names winding up in the credits, ranked according to the 'quality of their performance'. The finished title will be entered into the 2008 Independent Games Festival. "This project attempts to address two frustrations I experienced as a professional game developer. 1) Convincing human social behavior is difficult to model with existing hand crafted AI systems. 2) Play testing by people outside of the development team typically comes too late to have a major impact on the final product. This experiment aims to generate AI behaviors that conform to the way players actually choose to interact with other characters and the environment; behaviors that are convincingly human because they capture the nuances of real human behavior and language."

I can accept Vincent as a good answer as well, though. ^_^

Hahahaha the Russian SMB thing is terrific :) You always have the best stuff to post in your journal, thank you... *snugs*
>grin< Quite an inspired bit of work, I felt, even though my extent of Mario experience is seeing a friend gain the "raccoon" suit, and getting Mario Kart Racing with my DS. ^_^;

If you're looking for some potted FC, be sure to fetch Timduru's edit - only ten minutes, and very nicely put together, with a pumping soundtrack. (Ah, wish I could make the Bunny Jam this year, but the flight is a little unreachable at the moment.. ah well. There's always next year, by which time I may be able to knock up some additional lapinity in Maya - just been starting in on that this week)
Hehe... well you have probably seen enough, but if you get the chance, get someone to go through world 1-1 in the original NES SMB game for you (or do so on an emulator) -- everything in there refers to that for the most part :)

I apparenty need to pick up a newer QuickTime/VLC on my iBook, both barfed on the video -- I do intend to watch it, though :)

"Additional lapinity", gotta love that term... :)
Sounds like a job for mycroftb. ^_^ Once he's done with cleaning and reinstalling, that is.

Oh, definitely snag QT7, and a new VLC - 7's got some decent UI improvements, not to mention much better H.264 support. (The MPEG-2 version, though, won't play under a plain QT installation, due to MPEG licensing costs - you need to buy a separate MPEG-2 plug-in. Or use mplayer or VLC, of course)

We need bunny vampire tales.. people waking up with an odd nibble mark, later finding themselves growing an affinity for crunchy vegetables and opening letters with their teeth.
Communist Mario was WONDERFUL. :)

And Bob Basset's work is great as always, too... I just wish he would do some more wolf masks. ;)
It really caught the essence of that general style, ne? I was quite impressed to see it (taken a bit more from Nazi rather than Soviet styles, as I recall) adopted as the inspiration for that Lion King number, with Scar reviewing the massed hyena parade. (And what will Disney's future hold, I wonder? Will they proceed with more of these execrable sequels to classics? TLK 1.5/3 showed that even the TV animation units could turn out nigh cinematic work - easily the best OAV they've released, even if the story could've been more substantial)

More bunnies, I say, more bunnies! =:D They really do some quite astonishing work, no question. I wonder what it feels like to wear such a mask, so tightly fitting, conforming to yourself in a way a fiberglass mask never could..
Lion King number? I don't think I know that one, but then, I never cared for the lion king and similar Disney pieces, anyway.

But yeah, I wonder about that, too... it must be a great feeling to have that shaped leather surround your head, laced up tightly and concealing you entirely. ^.^ And there's definitely an entry for a bob_basset mask or two on my wishlist, too, but... well, it'll probably remain a dream forever. >_>
You didn't like TLK? Dear me. =:) I actually wound up seeing it multiple times, though that was helped by a friend at the time being quite a big cat fan, and TLK really hit home for him. ^_^ Think I saw it about eight times cinematically, and promptly bought the LD box set when it arrived the following September. A couple months later, I bought a laserdisc player =:)

And then, as in that story, having the lacing fall off as the mask becomes part of you.. ^_^ (In conjunction with a full-body suit, of course)
I don't know whether I like the lion king, actually - I never watched it at all, and given what I've heard about it from others with regard to its plot etc., I'm not really convinced it'd interest me, either. But then, I'm pretty picky when it comes to movies...

Laser discs are cool, though. :) I remember looking through a Philips (I think) catalogue of LD players back when they came out - I was quite fascinated, especially by the big, LP-sized golden discs. ^_^

*smiles* And yeah, the mask (and a matching leather bodysuit) becoming part of me... that sounds great, too, although I'd probably put on a second mask and a second bodysuit with socks and gloves right away. I *want* to be covered. ;)
I have TLK on LaserDisc, although mine's just in a normal LD sleeve and not a fancy box...

And for some reason TLK makes a constant buzzing noise out one speaker, always the same volume whether everything else is loud or quiet, which is very annoying.
Dang, I keep forgetting to check out those FC vids when I am at home, so I can actually listen to them, rather than try and watch them quietly in the small corner of my work computer.
Oh, Timduru's definitely - that's one you want to be able to have at a good volume. ^_^ Would headphones be frowned upon in yon salt mine? (Perhaps some discreet earbuds, rather than full-cup - these mightn't be a bad option)
